Dr. Ajit Pai is a Consultant Surgical Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon with special expertise in cancers of the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, pancreas, colon, and rectum), gynecologic cancers (ovarian, uterine and cervical cancers) and cancers of the esophagus. He also provides comprehensive care for cancers of the breast and head and neck cancers.
His formative surgical oncology training was at the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India, with subsequent specialty training in advanced gastrointestinal and pancreatic cancer surgery in Japan and Heidelberg, Germany. He completed a formal Fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal, laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques for gastrointestinal cancers at the University of Illinois, at Chicago, USA.
Dr. Pai’s special areas of interest and expertise are in the use of laparoscopic and robotic surgery for the stomach, colorectal, esophageal, and uterine cancers, extensive resections for large and recurrent cancers affecting multiple organs in the abdomen [multivesicular resections] and conservation surgery for breast cancer. The use of chemotherapy during surgery for ovarian, stomach, and colon and appendicular cancers in the form of HIPEC and PIPAC is also a core area of expertise.

Dr. Ajit Pai is a leading Consultant Surgical Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon at Apollo Cancer Center, Chennai. I am sharing my story on how I felt and how AJit Pai Sir treated us. We live in Chiitagong, Bangladesh. For the past six months, my father in law has been suffering from upper abdominal pain. Dr Ajit Pai, is one of the greatest oncological surgeon, a well experienced and soft-spoken person. Myself Manjesh 37yrs old, I had diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma (Spindle cell and Pleomorphic) 3rd stage cancer. I met doctor in the month of March 2020. As per his advice I underwent surgery on right time, before the Covid -19 lock down started. His personal attentions and kindness made me so comfortably. We are fortunate to get treatment from Dr. Ajit Sir. I'm being treated for CA on GEJ and Stomach. He uses simple language to explain treatment plan and procedure which gave us enormous confidence and comfort. For me Partial Gastroectomy was done which is extensive surgery but wasnt that hard because of his expertise and care. One of the finest GI oncology Surgeons with hands on experience in Robotics. He is trained in one of the top medical schools specializing in robotics surgery alongside oncology. His surgical techniques are top notch, for instance, he makes sure he just not remove the cancer tumor but also meticulously dissect out the marginal tissues and takes out far nodes for biopsy, so that any distant carcinoma are taken care as well. Truly knowledgeable in his field. Needless to say- All his fellow surgeons and his team do an amazing work as well. Most importantly he does explain and patiently listens to his patients and their attenders and solve all their queries.
